Baiyin and its mining landscape
Copper mining shaped Baiyin’s modern urban history. The Flame Mountain Mining Park preserves open-pit remains and exhibits, while the Yellow River Stone Forest lies farther away in Jingtai County.
Flame Mountain National Mine Park occupies the northeast of Baiyin's urban area. A municipal page of 14 March 2022 says it was among the first twenty-eight national mine parks approved in September 2005, with 10.28 square kilometres divided into a mine zone, a mining-history corridor and a theme park. The museum in the theme park opened free to visitors in October 2013. The city's profile of 1 March 2026 still presents Baiyin as a copper city born from a 1956 mine blast and restored as a prefecture-level city in 1985, a different landscape from Jingtai County's Yellow River stone forest.
