Jinchang, built around nickel
Jinchang took shape as a city for the Jinchuan nickel operation. The open pit, company history and urban neighborhoods make the relationship between mineral extraction and city building visible.
Jinchuan National Mine Park lies at the western end of Jinchuan West Road, on the north slope of the Longshou range southwest of the urban center. Its main view is the old open pit, with reclaimed slopes, spoil ground and facilities connected with mining and smelting. The surrounding streets grew alongside the nickel operation; Yongchang County preserves another part of the wider municipal history.
