Qitaihe’s Short-Track Speed Skating Champion Museum displays worn skates beside medals, competition suits and training photographs. The case brings together the objects of performance and preparation: blades shaped by use, clothing made for racing and images from practice and competition. Seen together, they show the material life of a sport whose public story is often told through podiums and records.

The tools behind the medal
A 2017 China Sports Daily account follows another set of objects: Meng Qingyu’s handmade tools for training and skate repair. It reports that his safe held those tools after he died. They recall a coach’s practical work away from the podium. A blade needs sharpening and adjustment before it carries an athlete through a race; maintaining skates was part of the training life Meng helped build in Qitaihe.
