The early coal story has two dates: Jixi's city history places the first discovery at Yulianggou in 1903, and a later account dates the first shovel of coal to 1906. Together, the dates trace a shift from locating a seam to beginning extraction. Yulianggou sits on the north bank of the Muling River, anchoring the city’s earliest recorded coal activity in a specific village landscape.

What remains in the village
Reliefs and an exhibition place the 1906 mining history alongside the 2009 story of the Minxin Bridge. In 2023, Liangjia Village began improving its living environment and developing courtyard businesses; later projects included a small-grain processing plant, cold storage and village-made foods. A recreated cooperative store evokes the 1960s and 1970s; nearby, a tofu workshop uses a stone mill, while craft workshops display paper-cutting, fish-skin pictures and tie-dye. Together they show how Yulianggou’s industrial history has been carried into a different local economy, where the creek, orchards and village memory now shape the public story.
