In February 2023, Heilongjiang Daily described roughly 200 metres of ice on the Diaoshuilou cliff. The waterfall drops nearly 30 metres, and the ice was about two metres thick in that report. The frozen sheet records a winter moment at Jingpo Lake’s outlet; in summer, the same source says, greater water volume sends the waterfall over the cliff in a forceful cascade.

Steam at the foot of the icefall
At the foot of the icefall, Black Dragon Pool stays open because hot springs rise into it. The 2023 account describes steam above the dark water while ice clings to the cliff overhead. This warm pool and frozen face occupy the same small scene, produced by sharply different temperatures rather than by a change in the lake’s volcanic origin.
