Zhijin Bridge

The Longjin wind and rain bridge lies across the Wushui river at Zhijiang, the Dong autonomous county of Huaihua nearest the city. Chinese records date its construction to the Ming dynasty; its covered walkway carries crossers over the water in rain as in sun, which is what the Dong name for such bridges states plainly. The county around it was the gateway of the old road to Guizhou and Yunnan, and in 1945 it was here, at the airfield town on this river, that Japan's surrender in China was arranged. The bridge remains the county's best-loved building and a listed emblem of Dong culture.
