A town with a film for a name
Wangcun was a market town of Yongshun county until Xie Jin's 1986 film Hibiscus Town was shot in its streets, and in 2007 the town took the film's name. The high-speed corridor now brings the audience to the set.
Furong Town is a market town of Yongshun County in the Xiangxi prefecture, known for centuries as Wangcun before it was renamed after the film Hibiscus Town in 2007. The film, Xie Jin's 1986 adaptation of Gu Hua's novel and one of the defining works of its decade, was shot on the town's streets, so its lanes are the movie's set in the most literal sense. The town now trades on that double identity — a working county town and a film location — and sits on the high-speed corridor that strings Zhangjiajie, Furong Town and Fenghuang together.
