Baisha Well
Baisha Well (白沙井) is a set of four ancient springs in south-central Changsha, ringed in granite a short walk south-east of Tianxin Pavilion. Tradition dates the well to the Spring and Autumn period; it began as one spring, became two by the late Ming and four by modern times, and served as the neighbourhood's main drinking water until piped supplies arrived. The water runs warmer than the air in winter and cooler in summer, and the level never rises or falls. Citizens donated to build a park around it in 2001, and it is a provincially protected site since 2006.
