A home becomes a memorial

A Heilongjiang government itinerary places Lin Feng’s former residence memorial museum in Wangkui County. It says the house dates to 1918 and that the memorial museum was built on the original site. Its displays include a biography of Lin Feng, a reconstructed residence and an exhibition about the Zheng family’s enterprise. The arrangement joins the scale of a home to the scale of public history: visitors encounter a place of family life alongside an account of a figure remembered in modern Chinese political history.

Three ways of telling a life

The memorial’s three named displays do different work. A biographical exhibition follows Lin Feng’s public life; a reconstructed home gives visitors a sense of domestic space; a family-business display situates the household in its local setting. The guide records that the museum opened in July 1994. The reconstructed rooms are an interpretive presentation of the former residence, bringing a local home into a museum narrative.

A local address for a national story

A memorial works best when its larger subject remains connected to place. Wangkui gives Lin Feng’s story a county address, while the house and exhibitions translate a public biography into rooms and objects visitors can encounter. The museum links household space, family enterprise and modern history within one visit. That combination lets a regional story begin at a doorway and widen toward a public life.
