Wuqiang County

Wuqiang County lies north of Hengshui, on the flat plain where paper, ink and wood were cheap enough to supply village households. Its New Year pictures were printed from woodblocks in workshops that cut their own designs, and the subjects range from door gods and auspicious children to scenes from opera and daily work. The craft declined in the twentieth century but is still practised, with a museum and workshops in the county.
