Langfang fills the corridor between Beijing and Tianjin, and its towns grew on the roads and canals that connected the two. Shengfang, in the south of the prefecture, was a commercial water town on the eastern edge of the Dongdian wetlands, with guild halls, temples and a market that served the surrounding counties. The prefecture also contains part of the site of Beijing Daxing International Airport, opened in 2019.
A canal wharf town on the Dongdian, east of Baiyangdian, where a rebuilt archway, a 1519 pavilion and a merchant house of 1880 stand, and where an ice-Buddha rite and seventy-two flower fairs still set the rhythm of the year.
