Jimingyi

Jimingyi is a walled post station in Huailai County, on the old road from Beijing to Zhangjiakou and the steppe. It was established in the Ming and served as a relay point for official couriers, with a walled square, a main street, temples and a postmaster's compound. The station declined when the railway bypassed it, which is why its walls and street plan survived relatively intact; it is now a national key cultural relic.

Jimingyi: the Courier Station That Kept the Road North

Jimingyi in Huailai County is the largest surviving post station in China: a walled square below Jiming Mountain, set up in 1420, where dispatches and travellers crossed until the courier service ended in 1914. Twenty-two of its buildings have been repaired.
