Cangzhou Iron Lion

The Cangzhou iron lion stands in the old part of the city, a cast iron figure made in 953, in the Later Zhou. It is over five metres long and several tonnes in weight, and its body is built from assembled cast sections. The lion has been repaired repeatedly and is now protected by a shelter; it is the object that gave Cangzhou its nickname, the city of the iron lion.

Cangzhou's Iron Lion and the Canal Town Around It

The iron lion at Cangzhou weighs 32 tonnes and carries a date of 953. It stands in the old county city at Jiuzhou, and three explanations of its purpose survive, none proved; each repair since 1957 has brought a new problem.
