Wahuang Palace

Wahuang Palace stands on the slope of Fenghuang Mountain in She County, above the Qingzhang River. The complex is dedicated to Nüwa, the goddess who mended the sky in Chinese myth, and its halls and grottoes are cut into and built against the cliff. The site is a national scenic area and a national key cultural relic; the oldest surviving structures are later than the myths they serve, and the architecture is as much the attraction as the cult.

Wahuang Palace: the cliff temple of Nüwa at She County

Wahuang Palace in She County honours Nüwa, the goddess who mended the sky, and holds two caves of Northern Qi Buddhist scripture cut into the cliff. The temple buildings are Ming; the myth and the stone text are older, and the site is still treated as a shrine.
