A menu arranged in three rounds

At Nadun Estate in Xiaozhuang Village, Huzhu County, tea and breads begin a meal arranged in three rounds. The county’s visitor page lists pan san and steamed rolls in the opening course. The middle round brings savory and sweet filled buns, steamed buns, vegetables, sweet fermented barley and niangpi. A whole-lamb dish or stew completes the sequence.

Bread and tea give way to a varied middle table, followed by a substantial final dish. The estate presents this circle banquet as part of its hosted cultural visits. Its arrangement gives several local food forms their own place in the meal, rather than bringing every dish to the table at once.

A meal beside song and greeting

The meal belongs to a designed visitor setting with a reception courtyard, Tusi-style building, folk displays, a brewing workshop and performance spaces. The county page places a Tu-style troupe and welcome rituals alongside the dining program. It also describes call-and-response singing during meals and names barley mijiu among the drinks served.

The food and the performance share a sequence of hospitality: a welcome, a place at the table, tea and breads, further dishes and song. This particular estate menu shows how a hosted banquet can gather food, drink and performance into one occasion.

Huzhu’s hosted meals also take other forms. A 2024 Ministry of Culture and Tourism feature presents a Seven-Color Family Banquet, an evolving 25-dish menu built on the older Eight Plates arrangement. Its braised Eight-Browed pork, lamb neck, walnuts and vegetable dishes offer a different composition from Nadun’s three rounds. The two named meals show how local hospitality can be arranged around both sequence and a designed collection of dishes.
