Sok Kwu Wan is one of Hong Kong’s designated fish culture zones. Marine fish culture is regulated and requires a licence there. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department describes many licensed farms as small, family-based operations: working places on the water, not simply scenic rafts.

Aquaculture on Lamma’s waters
Work and leisure share the water
The “Fish enJoy” scheme allows eligible mariculture rafts to offer leisure activities as an additional business. Approved rafts in Sok Kwu Wan may receive visitors, but activities must not interfere with fish culture or harm the environment. The visitor programme sits alongside aquaculture rather than replacing it.
A working landscape with public access
Sok Kwu Wan’s fish culture zone brings regulated farming and limited public visits into the same waters. Its identity rests in both uses: licensed rafts raise marine fish, while approved activities introduce visitors to the setting. Lamma’s coast is therefore a place of work as well as leisure.
