Ashhada Cliff Inscriptions

Ashhada’s inscriptions are historical evidence for shipbuilding activity on the Songhua River during the Ming period. A Jilin local-history account reads two carvings as records of shipbuilding in the vicinity and relates them to the river transport network. The precise shipyard location is inferred from the inscriptions and the surrounding landscape. The cliff site and the Jilin Ming and Qing Shipyard Site Museum are in Fengman District.

The Ming Shipyard Recorded at Ashhada

Two cliff inscriptions at Ashhada record Liu Qing’s repeated river shipbuilding missions and a temple by the Songhua. Their dates and the wider Ming record make this a history of transport, administration and labor.
