The Mountain of the Coast
Binzhou is one long slope, and its northern half is flat: shell ridges, reed beds and salt pans. Jieshi Mountain is the one name in the prefecture's list of mountains.
Binzhou is a prefecture-level city in northern Shandong, in the heart of the Yellow River Delta on the south-west shore of Bohai Bay. It covers 9,453 square kilometres, 120 kilometres from east to west and 175 from north to south, and counted 3,928,568 inhabitants in 2020. The prefecture is two landscapes divided by one river. South of the Xiaoqing the Changbai mountains of Zouping end at Mohe Peak, 826.8 metres, the highest point in the city; north of it the Yellow River alluvium lies at 1 to 20 metres and runs out into salt flat and reed marsh. The river itself runs 94 kilometres through the territory. The name dates from 956, when land here bordered the Bohai, and the old county town of Putai survives as the name of a subdistrict.
