Where Three Rivers Begin in the Hills
The Yimeng hills are a country rather than a mountain: three great ranges, forest over 80 per cent of the ground, and the sources of three rivers that all end in the sea.
Yimeng is not one peak but a stretch of country: the Yishan range of Weifang and the mountains of Linyi to its south, built out of several great ranges, long rolls of hill and alluvial flats lying between them. Its main mountains are Yishan, Mengshan and Menglianggu, and its main rivers the Yi, the Shu and the Bang. The ground is warm temperate monsoon country, with an average temperature of 13.1 degrees, 212 frost-free days and 823.8 millimetres of rain a year, and forest covers 80 per cent of it. Mengshan alone runs 75 kilometres from northwest to southeast and covers 1,125 square kilometres.
