Qianfoshan

Qianfoshan is the northern spur of Mount Tai, 285 metres high, standing in the southern suburbs of Jinan and counted as one of the city's three great sights. It covers 164.88 hectares. Legend holds that Shun once ploughed at its foot, which is why it is also called the Ploughing Mountain of Shun, and a shrine to him stood there. In the Sui Kaihuang era, between 581 and 600, thousands of Buddhist figures were carved into the rock along the slope and the hill took the name it still carries; the temple at its foot was rebuilt and renamed Xingguo Chan Temple in the Tang Zhenguan era.
