A post-earthquake conservation project

Newzhai Jiana Mani is a major protected heritage site in Yushu. In 2012, while post-earthquake rescue and conservation work was under way, Qinghai cultural officials inspected the construction site for quality and safety. The project brought together construction companies and a supervision firm, whose representatives met with provincial officials to report progress and discuss problems.

The meeting covered safe construction, work quality, proper use of project funds and required corrections. The restoration of a sacred stone site depended on coordinated work among builders, supervisors and cultural authorities.

Inspection, correction, follow-up

On April 20, an official team returned to Newzhai Jiana Mani and to the contractors’ living area for another inspection. It identified issues and set a two-day deadline for corrections. Two days later, inspectors checked the results and reported that contractors had made the requested changes and prepared a fire drill at the site.

The report records restoration as a sequence of visits: construction, safety review, correction and follow-up. Those checks formed part of the effort to safeguard the site while post-earthquake conservation work continued.
