A 2026 profile of Guinan embroidery inheritor Dojiecuo names the Eight Auspicious Symbols and the Four Harmonious Friends among traditional motifs. Her works also use mountain and grassland scenes, people and animals as contemporary subjects. The shift in subject matter keeps the needlework in conversation with everyday life on the plateau. The national intangible-heritage entry adds a larger frame, noting that the craft has borrowed techniques and approaches from Jiangnan embroidery and Regong art as its themes have widened.

Motif and material meet
The Guinan profile describes vivid primary colors, clear lines and techniques such as pile embroidery, couching in gold thread and seed stitch. It also follows the making of traditional accessories including jialong, taoluo and suodou, where the artist adjusted materials, color and pattern while retaining recognizable forms. These examples show motifs working together with material choices and stitch structure. A pattern takes form with the textile’s surface and use.
