From Qarhan Brine to Golmud’s Sodium Products

A 2023 account of Golmud Industrial Park traces a shift from basic salt processing toward a broader family of sodium products.

A chain begins in brine

A 2023 report from Golmud’s Kunlun Economic and Technological Development Zone starts its account of sodium processing with salt-lake brine. From that material, the industrial park listed industrial salt, low-sodium salt, soda ash and sodium nitrate among its products. The list moves across different uses of the same regional resource, from familiar salt to chemicals that belong farther along an industrial supply chain.

From basic processing to a wider range

The report described the park’s direction as a move from single, basic processing toward multiple products and deeper processing. That change is visible in the way the article groups facilities and companies around different sodium resources. It offers a more specific story than a general portrait of a salt lake: a large inland basin supplies brine, while an industrial zone turns it into several distinct products. The capacities and production figures in the same report belong to 2023, a dated picture of the industrial landscape.
