Look a little closer

Follow tea craft in Longjing, a book collector in Ningbo and indigo cloth in Wuzhen.

  2. A sixteenth-century official carried a collecting habit across his career. The library he built in Ningbo turned that personal pursuit into a structure meant to outlast him.

  3. At Wuzhen’s indigo workshop, a pattern takes shape by keeping parts of the cloth away from the dye.
