The first tea, on the fifth peak
Mengding's tea tradition begins with seven trees on a peak, a Song tribute garden and a set of stone steps still used by pickers.

Ya'an is often described as the rain city. Its tea mountains and the Dengchigou valley are two distinct reasons to stop, one agricultural and one zoological.

In 1869 a French naturalist saw a black-and-white pelt in a Baoxing farmhouse. The animal became the giant panda.

On Mengding the picking is done by hand, in spring, on terraces steep enough to explain why. The famous name comes later, in the workshop.
