A Buddha cut into a cliff
The Leshan Buddha is 71 metres of red sandstone, carved over ninety years and protected by channels cut into its own hair.
The Buddha faces the river from the cliff at Qiluan Peak. It was cut between 713 and 803, and its drainage system is as important as its size.
