Shilin’s limestone does not make one repeated silhouette. Visitors move between narrow passages, open fields of pinnacles and towers of different heights. The South China Karst World Heritage property includes Shilin as one component of a much larger karst system; provincial conservation material also identifies the area as a protected geological landscape.
These records place the stone forms within a regional karst landscape shaped by dissolution and erosion. They support attention to scale and spacing, while leaving particular formation names and local interpretations to the park’s own geological explanation.
