A grass capital, then the rest

Inner Mongolia is not one grassland. This first reading starts at Xanadu, the Yuan summer capital, then moves through two city temples, eight white tents, a dune field with lakes, one poplar forecast, Hulun Lake and two songs.

Xanadu opens the region as a measured grass capital, with a boundary and a date, rather than as a metaphor for every league.

Two capitals, a shrine that is not a confirmed burial, and a dune field whose boundary is not yet drawn.

  1. Xanadu was Kublai Khan's first capital and then the Yuan summer capital. The walls were abandoned in 1430 and inscribed in 2012.

  2. In Yuquan District a three-metre silver figure sits in a hall the district itself dates in two different ways.

  3. At Ejin Horo the scenic area describes eight movable felt tents, a rite on the national heritage list, and a complex built in 1954.

  4. Badain Jaran was inscribed in 2024 for dunes and lakes: a relative height of 460 metres, and 144 inter-dunal lakes.

Five prefecture-level cities and three leagues. The leagues are not cities, and four other cities wait for a later reading.
