A reserve defined by water and rock

According to the provincial forestry authority, Babao Provincial Nature Reserve in Guangnan was approved in 2002 and covers 5,232 hectares. Its listed values include karst landforms, waterfall hydrology and aquatic communities. Water is part of the area’s protected ecological features, not simply a view beneath limestone slopes.

Fields within the protected landscape

The same reserve description includes rice germplasm, production areas and local rice-growing culture. Fields and waterways share this working valley, placing food production beside the reserve’s karst and aquatic habitats. The official account joins ecological processes with cultivation within one protected landscape.
