When a Village Sings in Many Voices
Dong Grand Song is built from interweaving voices, learned together and heard in places where village life gathers.
Two rivers cross Zhaoxing. Five village groups—Ren, Yi, Li, Zhi and Xin—are linked by streets and paths, with five drum towers and five flower bridges set among homes, granaries, mills, wells and fishponds. The waterways pass through the settlement, bridges join their banks, and paths lead toward shared squares. A local reading pictures the village plan as a boat, joining its waterways and surrounding slopes in one image. The combination of river, bridge and square gives the village a distinctive spatial rhythm.
