Thread, Hammer and Silver in Leishan
Embroidery and silverwork are distinct practices whose forms vary by place and by maker.
Around Xijiang, the Baishui River, terraces, surrounding mountains and traditional timber buildings form a distinctive landscape. Miao embroidery and silver forging are part of local making traditions. Leishan embroidery has its own forms, while silverwork is shaped by regional techniques. Look at the work itself: thread crossing cloth, or silver softened by heat and shaped through hammering, drawing and joining. The people who make, wear, repair and adapt these objects belong in the story as much as the finished ornament.
