The Town at the Forum’s River Mouth
Boao’s conference identity sits beside an older fishing-and-farming landscape at the mouth of the Wanquan River.
A Qionghai coastal town where a fishing-and-farming past and an annual international forum occupy the mouth of the Wanquan River.
A National Immigration Administration feature describes Boao as an eastern coastal town in Qionghai with a history of fishing and farming. Since the Boao Forum for Asia was established in 2001, annual meetings have been held there from 2002 onward. A 2026 provincial report locates the forum complex on Dongyu Island at the mouth of the Wanquan River and describes a zero-carbon demonstration zone developed there since 2022. The town’s story is therefore not only a conference calendar: it is also a coastal settlement shaped by river and sea.
