Wanning's government describes a 109-kilometre coast with more than ten bays, two inland seas and seven islands or peninsulas. Shenzhou is one member of that varied shoreline, named alongside Dazhou and Jiajing islands in the municipal account. The distinction matters: a coastline is not one venue with one kind of wave. The same report describes surfing, paddleboarding and cycling as activities made possible by the broader mix of sea, islands, bays and coastal road. Shenzhou's own story in the article is more specific—motorboats, training and organized events.

Training on the Open Water at Shenzhou
At Shenzhou Peninsula, a 2023 instructor course shows how Wanning's water-sports scene is being organized around training as well as events.

A motorboat identity takes shape
The municipal report frames Wanning's marine sports policy as “one bay, one product” and says Shenzhou Peninsula was developed as a core site for motorboat sports. Winter training and leisure competitions are described as recurring activities. The phrase is a planning slogan, but the reported division of focus is concrete: surfing is associated with other parts of the coast, while Shenzhou is where the city places its motorboat training and event program. That gives the peninsula a role beyond being a photographed coastline.
Twenty practitioners enter a certification course
In 2023, the southern national motorboat training base on Shenzhou hosted a national beginner instructor course. More than twenty practitioners from across China attended. The report says trainees who passed the assessment could obtain a national beginner motorboat-instructor certificate issued by the water-sports center of the General Administration of Sport. The scene is different from an open-water excursion: participants were there to learn a skill to a standard and qualify to teach it. The article calls this part of a broader move toward formalized training in Wanning's surfing, diving and motorboat activities.
A training base becomes part of a wider coastal system
The report places the Shenzhou base beside a national diving training base at Shimei Bay and a water-based leisure-sports pilot spanning Shenzhou's First Bay, Riyue Bay and Shimei Bay. Those labels describe policy and institutional status at the time of the 2023 report, not a permanent designation that should be assumed unchanged. Together they show the practical scale of the city's “sports tourism” idea: certification, seasonal training, competitions and purpose-built facilities sit alongside the beaches and bays. At Shenzhou, the motorboat story begins with the people who came to train and the credential they could earn.
