Xian Xinghai was born in Macao in 1905. The Cultural Affairs Bureau’s memorial-museum account says he was raised by a Macao fisherwoman, a detail that places his early years beside the city’s working waterfront. His life later took him far beyond the peninsula, but Macao remains part of his biography and public memory.
He studied music through years of determined work. His life ended in 1945, when he was only forty. The memorial museum traces the path from his Macao childhood to a career shaped by study, composition and the upheavals of wartime China.
