A summer festival in Chuxiong

A 2011 study by the Chuxiong Prefecture Cultural Centre places the Torch Festival among a wider calendar of local gatherings, including clothing festivals. It describes these events as combining social, ritual, musical and commercial activity. The account is a dated institutional overview, not a single script for every community in the prefecture.

A 2019 report offers one specific setting: a Bimo cultural learning centre opened at Bandengshan in Zixi town in connection with Torch Festival transmission. The programme brought specialists and heritage bearers from several local dialect areas together, with three-string, gourd-flute and sheepskin-drum performances.
