Yingzhou West Lake

A historic lake remembered through Ouyang Xiu, Su Shi and a museum model of lost civic landmarks.

Yingzhou West Lake belongs to the literary memory of present-day Fuyang. The city museum’s account uses a model to show West Lake Academy, Liuyi Hall and Su Causeway, helping visitors understand a landscape that cannot be treated as an intact medieval panorama. Ouyang Xiu’s retirement and Su Shi’s later visit connect the lake with writing, public office and the city’s efforts to preserve its former geography.
