Xidi: a village built around the Hu family
Xidi’s streams and lanes make the structure of a merchant village visible without reducing it to one family story.
A merchant village whose lanes follow streams toward Huiyuan Bridge.
Xidi’s settlement plan is legible in the movement of water. Three streams run east to west through and alongside the village before converging near Huiyuan Bridge to the south. The lanes, houses, ancestral spaces, and carved façades belong to a lived village shaped by commerce and clan ties, not a stage set designed around a single view.
