Reading Lava on Haikou’s Edge
The geopark interprets cones, craters, lava and tunnels as evidence of volcanic processes in northern Hainan.
Volcanic cones, craters, lava and lava tunnels offer a geological account of northern Hainan.
South of Haikou, the geopark interprets a volcanic landscape formed from cones, craters, lava and pyroclastic rock. Its official profile describes a 108-square-kilometre park with around forty volcanoes and identifies lava tunnels among the features visitors can learn about. A science museum adds an explanatory layer to the terrain. Lava tunnels, cones and craters let visitors read the landscape through the materials and landforms described by the geopark.
