The Tidal Forest at Dongzhai Port
At Dongzhai, mangroves are habitat, a place of restoration and a subject for public science interpretation.
A tidal mangrove wetland in Yanfeng links coastal habitat, restoration work and public interpretation.
Dongzhai Port lies in Yanfeng Town in Haikou’s Jiangdong area. A local government feature describes boats threading between mangroves and points to small intertidal animals—jumping fish, tree-climbing snails and crabs with uneven claws—as ways to notice the wetland at close range. A 2025 report documents restoration work that began in 2013, including clearing abandoned ponds and replanting mangroves, alongside a trial opening of a science boardwalk and observation tower. This is a living coast whose public story includes both habitat and the work of repair.
