A 1,200-metre coastal path

The Hac Sá–Dragon Claws Coast Trail runs for about 1,200 metres. The route links the Dragon Claw Coast Road with the Hac Sá Barracks Road or the first street of Cheoc Van Villas. It offers a short walk beside Coloane’s sea-facing slopes, with the coast close enough for the route to be experienced through its turns and changes in view rather than as a distant panorama.

The trail is a public path, but it is exposed to weather. In 2025, a typhoon damaged several stone railings and the Municipal Affairs Bureau temporarily closed the path. Repair work was completed the following year, and it reopened on 30 April 2026.

Dragon Claw and Ape Man

Two named rock formations help give the route its identity: Dragon Claw Rock and Ape Man Rock. The names invite comparison with the shapes visible along the coast, making them recognizable stops for walkers. The official description also notes the coastal plant community and the combination of mountain and sea views.

The names describe how the rocks are read on site; they do not establish their geological age or origin. The route’s interest comes from the proximity of water, hillside plants and distinctive rock shapes, all encountered along a modest-length walk. Along the route, Dragon Claw Rock and Ape Man Rock give familiar names to two formations beside the sea.
