A name taken from the rock

Stone breaks the current. Shizuishan's name comes from rock jutting like a mouth where the Helan Mountains meet the Yellow River. The river screens the east, the mountains stand on the west, and the city touches Inner Mongolia on the east, north, and west, and Yinchuan on the south. The mouth-shaped rock is the etymology the city gives itself. The cliff is in Huinong District, the northernmost part of the prefecture.

Shizuizi Dock Park is more than 1,000 metres of river cliff, in forms called four caves and six mouths, likened to a toad mouth, a whale mouth, a coiled-dragon cave, and a crouching-tiger cave. Shizuizi is named as one of Ningxia's three ancient ferries. In the Northern Wei it is told as a trade point among Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Qinghai, dealing in coal, sheepskin, and salt. In winter, ice flowers form on the river. No township is named for the dock.

A wetland, then a street inland

Two other addresses in Huinong stay separate from this cliff. Yinhewan, in Yinhe Village, Lihe Township, is a wetland park of more than 8,000 mu, named as an important stop for migratory birds on the East Asian–Australasian flyway without a bird count attached. The regional list rates 银河湾生态休闲旅游度假区 as 3A on 23 April 2024; local news uses the shorter name 银河湾生态旅游区. A Yellow River National Cultural Park project there was once described as adding a digital experience hall, three landscape bridges, lighting, and signs. Huanghe Ancient Ferry Quarter is inland on Binhe Avenue at National Highway 109 in Huinong, 2.3 kilometres east of the Yellow River, on 50,400 square metres—a 1A dining, entertainment, lodging, and performance complex rated 9 July 2023 as 黄河古渡坊. The kilometre of rock in the city's name is Shizuizi Dock Park; neither the wetland nor the inland quarter is this bank.

The district around the cliff

Huinong District covers 1,361 square kilometres. At the end of 2023 it had about 179,000 residents, divided among 6 subdistricts, 3 towns, and 3 townships. The district was formed on 31 December 2003, when the former Huinong County and the former Shizuishan District were merged. The district government stands on Bei Dajie. Area and population are the city's figures for the end of 2023.

Inside the district, three addresses stay distinct. Shizuizi Dock Park is the kilometre-long cliff. Yinhe Village holds the wetland. The 1A dining quarter sits back from the river. Shahu, dunes against a lake and a bird island, stands in Pingluo County. The stone mouth in the city's name is this Huinong bank.
