Tengchong’s 2025 protection report records the Gaoligong protected area at 42,418 hectares, about 7.3 percent of the county. Those mapped figures give the forest a local scale within the much larger Gaoligong range; the report also lists plant and animal records as part of its account of conservation work.

Reading the local record
The Tengchong report also describes what protection looks like on the ground: forest-fire monitoring, patrol staffing, habitat surveys and programs for small-population species. It records 118 kilometres of border firebreak road and 350 forest rangers assigned in the protected area and surrounding districts. These measures place the reserve’s 42,418-hectare boundary within an active system of monitoring and care.
